HOW WGI HELPED WEST PALM BEACH TRANSFORM IT'S DOWNTOWN
Banyan Boulevard, one of downtown West Palm Beach’s main corridors, has undergone a facelift that transformed the roadway from a dilapidated & dangerous liability to a functional & sustainable opportunity.
The cracked pavement, faded paint, & lackluster landscaping have been replaced with artful design, thoughtful incorporation of alternative transportation methods, & a diverse canopy of local trees & shrubs to act as shelter from the profound Florida sun & heat.
The culmination of these design additions ultimately provides a more pleasant & prudent experience for the hundreds of daily users who drive, bike, or walk the NEW Banyan Boulevard.
A Complete Streets Approach
The original roadway refurbishment plans for Banyan Boulevard would have solved the deteriorating pavement problem, but WGI's designers knew it would fall short of addressing the existential issues of safety, functionality, sustainability, & beauty.
To tackle this, our team employed an overarching Complete Streets approach to their design efforts. This strategy focused heavily on catering to alternative transportation methods as well as improving safety & comfort for pedestrians.
